USS Eagle – Flag Day 2015 Tour

The Coast Guard’s USS Eagle is docked at Atlantic Salt just across from my home for six weeks.

The Eagle is a barque that the Coast Guard uses as a sail school for its future officers. “Sail training still provides the best possible foundation for seamanship,” the Coast Guard wrote in spec sheets that were available to the public.

On Flag Day, the public was invited to tour America’s Tall Ship. The event also included free food and beverages, a live jazz band, and a magic show. My uncle – William E. Thomas, 92, a WW II vet also was a merchant mariner. I surprised him by bringing him, and my wife, Elsy to this event.
